Stress and fear are natural reactions in the body. We can learn what makes us stressed, how the body feels when it is stressed, and what we can do to help ourselves manage stress and become calmer.
About stress
Situations or things that are perceived as dangerous can scare us. War, conflict and having to flee can scare us and we become stressed. Stress is a natural reaction. There are many things that can make us feel stressed, such as being late for school or taking a test. Stress makes us anxious, and then it can be difficult to concentrate and learn.

Why should you learn about stress?
When you are stressed or scared, the muscles in your body become tense. The muscles in your shoulders and neck become tense. Your breathing becomes very fast. You heart beats fast. When we feel like this, we can do exercises that help the muscles in our body relax. We then feel calmer and safer.
What will we learn?
- Learn that our bodies have a normal reaction to stress and fear.
- Learn about what can scare and stress us.
- Learn about what can help us manage stress.
- Learn the exercises “Deep breaths” and “Tighten and release” which help us to feel safe and calm.
