Stress management

Stress makes us lose the feeling of being present and in touch with our bodies. We can reduce stress and become more present by thinking about a place that makes us feel safe.

About stress management

Stress management means that we learn about ways to calm ourselves down. One way is to talk to our brain and body. “Safe Place” is an exercise that you can do when you feel scared, sad, and stressed. In the exercise “Safe Place”, we find a safe place in our minds. This can be a place where we have been and like to be, or we can create a completely new place with our own imagination.

Sometimes we can be a little stressed, other times we can be very stressed. You can create your own stress scale to check with yourself whether you are a little stressed or very stressed. It can help you feel less overwhelmed.

Why should you learn about stress management?

Most stress reactions happen without us thinking about it. However, when we notice that we are stressed or very scared, we can use mindfulness exercises to calm ourselves down. When we think about something that is safe and good, we get a pause from stressful thoughts and we become more relaxed in our bodies. We can also recognize and assess how stressed we are.

What will we learn?

  • Learn the “Safe Place” exercise which can be used to help us feel calm and safe again.
  • Learn to recognize how we feel and measure our own stress levels on a stress scale.
